Verdite Kings - The StoryVerdite Kings is a company born out of the frustrations of Mr. Killborn King. For three years Mr. King had been buying sculpture for resale but had never been satisfied with the detail attended to the models. Initially he tried communicating his concepts to the sculptors but they had difficulty comprehending what he was trying to say to them.So it was then that Mr. King decided to start a workshop where he could direct artists but even that was not enough as when he spoke he had difficulty (at times, impossible) getting through to them. With the passion for high quality sculpture burning inside him Mr. King resolved to do the sculpting himself. Initially this proved next to impossible because of his physical limitations (Mr. King is disabled - tetraplaegic).
Defiantly he tied a machine to a pole and found that by manipulating the piece in making the alterations to it, he could put the finishing he desired. As time went on it became a habit for Mr. King to put the finishing on a produced sculpture and soon enough he had realized an artistic ability to do so, though disadvantaged. His artists who could effectively manoeuver chisels, hammers and others of their ilk would produced the general form of the piece while Mr. King would with the use of a rotoring machine produce the detail to make the piece come to life with the expression of his thoughts thus finding great pleasure and satisfaction to share with the world.
Verdite Kings became a wholly-Zimbabwean family owned business in 1991 and continues to function in that capacity with markets not only in Zimbabwe but the United States of America, South Africa and on occasion Europe. For the past three years Verdite Kings have entered their products in exhibitions in the USA with much success being derived commercially.
